In 1992, I was waiting at a Bart Station to pick up a guy for church. I was waiting for approximately 45 minutes, and the guy that I was waiting for had not shown up yet. I knew that he was on his way because I called his house, and His roommate told me he was running late.
Then at one point, I recall a man wearing an ivory business casual suit and he was standing up against a wall inside the Bart Station. I remember thinking that it was odd that he was standing against the wall staring at me.
Within five minutes he approached me, and he extended his hand out to me. Then he said, "Hi, my name is Julio. "Don't you just hate waiting at Bart Station?" Looking into his sky blue eyes with his brown complextion, I replied, "I am not here to wait. I am here to pick someone up." I went on to explain the situation, and that I was picking up a guy for church. Julio then replied, "So where is he? Why is he not here?" I explained, "Well, he is on his way and is running late. "Julio said, "Don't wait – leave." I replied, "I can't just leave. I came from Alameda, and I am going to wait for a while longer. His roommate told me he was on his way. Then I explained that we were going to church. Julio asked, "Is he a Christian?" When he asked me this, a bell went off in my head, and I was taken back by his concern. I said, "He is thinking about becoming a Christian." Julio ended the conversation by asking, "So why is he not here? Don't wait – leave." He walked away and sat on a bench across the way. I proceeded after him. When I approached him, he said to me again, "Don't wait – leave. Wait about ten minutes and then leave." I was silent. Then I replied, "I will check one more time to see if he is comming." I walked across the pavement and looked around on last time. About fifteen to twenty seconds passed during this time. Then I turned back to proceed over to Julio again, and I noticed that he had disappeared. I looked everywhere for him. There were no cars, no buses, no Bart trains, and there was about four- five people standing there. I did not miss him in a crowd, and I did not turn away for long. If he had been walking somewhere, or if someone had picked him up, I would have seen him in the distance. There was nothing. No noise. He was just gone.
At that moment, a verse of scripture came into my mind. “Some have entertained angels without knowing it" (Hebrews 13:2).
Immediately, I felt alarmed and I ran in haste to my car. As I entered my car I immediately locked all my doors. Suddenly, there was a knock on my passenger window. It was the guy that I had been waiting for.
Then, I had a word of knowledge that this guy did not want to be at church, and that he was late on purpose. Julio was trying to get me to see.
I knew from that moment on that I was not supposed to be with this guy. I told him I knew why he was late, and he gave me no reply.
Since he was there I decided to take him to church with me thinking it was good for him. When we attended the church service we received the last thirty minutes of service, and I knew he did not want to be there from his body language.
The next day, my aunt called me, and I shared the events of the previous day with her. She sensed in the spirit as well that I was not supposed to be with this guy. Between her andJulio, I knew God’s will.
Jesus was protecting me. Jesus knows all things, and he sees the beginningfrom the end where we do not. He always wants what is best for us.
In Closing:
"Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it" (Hebrews 13:2).
